About the Artist

Fran Kalb was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her travels began at 6 weeks old and have continued throughout her life.

Through her travel and exposure to other cultures and places, Fran is able to bring a diversity and depth that translates to her art.

She began painting in her teens and has continued to explore her inner worlds filled with vivid images and symbols.

Artist Statement

I've always had a great imagination, so it seems natural that the way I approach painting is intuitive. Even when I have an image in mind it may still evolve quite differently. The process unfolds, I listen and engage until our conversation feels complete.

Most of my paintings are on paper with mixed media which may include acrylics, ink, graphite, pastel, metallic leafing or pigments, collage and textures. I love the challenge of experimenting with new materials and ideas.

Once a painting is finished, I frame it under glass or mount in on wood canvas board and seal it with a clear UV protective finish.
